Students should be through lessons 2-3 and the first quick quiz on Schoology. Writing: Fictional Narratives--Due on WEDNESDAY, November 16th The assignment will be posted in Schoology when I'm ready for students to turn them in. Right now, I'm encouraging all students to make as many changes as possible to turn in their best piece of writing. Spelling & Vocab: Study for Lesson 5 Tests--WEDNESDAY, November 16th Math:
Unit 2--Students should be completely finished with all assignments through lesson 2-3 in Schoology by Monday. Reading: "Elisa's Diary" Performance Task Writing--This assignment is posted in Schoology under Reading, Lesson 5 with specific instructions. If necessary, students can use Think Central to access the story before submitting their paragraphs. Writing:
Fictional Narratives--Students should draft a fictional narrative (story that isn't real). This is a work in progress, so it does NOT need to be a perfect, polished piece by tomorrow. It should have a clear beginning, middle, and end. It should establish the characters and setting in the beginning, have a clear plot in the middle with great description and dialogue, and an ending that clearly states the resolution of the story. Math: Unit 1 Study Guide--Use Test Form A to prepare for Friday's unit test on adding/subtracting fractions. *See attachment below for a copy. Reading/ Writing: After independently reading "Double Dutch" from lesson 4, students should complete the performance task writing on student book pg. 129 in the RACE Writing Format (Restate, Answer, Cite, Elaborate). To be done on a Google Doc and turned into Google Classroom. "The Snazzy Steppers went from being one of the worst double Dutch teams in the league to being the best. How did they accomplish this feat? Write a paragraph explaining how hard the Snazzy Steppers worked to become champions. Include quotations and other text evidence to support your explanation." (Journeys Student Book, pg. 129) **Due on Friday, October 28th.
Math: HW 1-7, pg. 13--Adding Unlike Fractions (copy below) Social Studies: USA Studies Weekly--Students should complete "Map Features" on pg. 3, the crossword puzzle on pg. 4, and "Who Are Our Neighbors" on pg. 4. Writing: Narratives--This lesson's narrative writing is due tomorrow morning. (Google Docs & Google Classroom) **All of these things are assignments that were given class time to complete, so they are only homework if your child was not able to finish them during the day.**
Reading:
Writing About Reading--"A Royal Mystery" This assignment is found on p. 65 of the Journey's student book. The task is to explain how the scenes in the story help to move the plot along. The format we use for writing these types of constructed responses (performance tasks) is RACE. R-Restate the question. A-Answer the question. C-Cite specific evidence from the text. (The kids can either directly quote from the story and explain it, or they can use their own words to explain details from the text.) E-Elaborate, or explain, further. All students have access to the student book online through Think Central. It is found under "My Library" and "Reading."
